The dominant desktop computer operating system since 1995, and home to tens of thousands of commercial video games, most of which continue to work on modern computers running the latest incarnation of Windows, with varying degrees of difficulty.

Despite multiple attempts by Microsoft, there is no central storefront for Windows games, but Steam and GOG are the most popular. Steam offers a mind-bogglingly huge library, frequent sales with mind-bogglingly low prices, and has by far the most feature complete desktop client. Many storefronts and even a few retail packages simply offer digital keys which can be redeemed on Steam. GOG offers 100% DRM free downloads, and is more reputable for support and for hassle-free compatibility of old games. Several publisher-centric storefronts exist as well, including Microsoft's own Windows Games store, Ubisoft's uPlay, and Electronic Arts' Origin.
