Nintendo's official digital distribution platform for emulated titles. The selections are biased toward games developed for Nintendo consoles, but there is also a decent, albeit far from comprehensive representation of Sega Genesis, Turbografx, and Neo-Geo.

The platform has some downsides. Emulation quality lags far behind unofficial efforts, and is unlikely to improve. The targeted platforms are all 8-bit or 16-bit, with the sole exception of a small Nintendo 64 selection. Maybe most annoyingly, the selection of games is split across three platforms; Wii, 3DS, and Wii U, with some games exclusive to some platforms, and each platform is further segregated by market region. Wii U has a Wii Mode which enables the Wii VC selection, but requires Wii controllers to function, and has several other limitations. Switch currently does not support Virtual Console, and it is unknown how or if this will be implemented in the future.

Superseded by Nintendo eShop for 3DS, Wii U, and Switch, which even further segregates the library of available titles.
