Fourth-generation Sega console. Major add-on systems include the Power Base Converter (for Master System compatibility), Sega CD, and Sega 32X.

Kega Fusion provides decent emulation and a great feature set, though is no longer updated. RetroArch with the Genesis Plus GX core may offer even greater accuracy and compatibility, though it lacks 32X support.

Authentic Genesis hardware had very poor composite video support, with notoriously bad color accuracy and color smearing. Many games deliberately relied on the color smearing by using dithered patterns, expecting that the composite output would blend these patterns together, creating transparency effects and greater color depth. Good emulators allow using NTSC filters to replicate the color smearing without losing color accuracy.

Official Nintendo emulation of Genesis games exists through Virtual Console for Wii, but the selection beyond Sega-published titles is limited, and accuracy isn't stellar.
